TP430 stainless steel round pipe is a classic ferritic stainless steel containing approximately 16-18% chromium and low carbon content. It offers good oxidation resistance, mild corrosion resistance, and resistance to stress corrosion cracking. TP430 seamless tubes typically have a tensile strength of ≥450 MPa and better thermal conductivity compared to austenitic stainless steel, making them particularly suitable for high-efficiency heat transfer systems.


Our ASTM A268 TP430 seamless heat exchanger tubes are manufactured using cold drawing and solution annealing processes, ensuring uniform wall thickness, smooth inner surface, and precise dimensional tolerances. Why is TP430 used in boilers instead of TP304?

TP430 stainless steel pipes have extremely high resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, while austenitic steels (304/316) are prone to failure due to this in boiler water circulation. TP430 has a thermal conductivity approximately 25%-30% higher than 304, resulting in higher heat exchange efficiency and less stress on the tube sheet during hot and cold cycles, thus reducing the risk of leakage at joints.

Will TP 430 rust in a boiler environment?

TP 430 contains 16%–18% chromium and offers good corrosion resistance. However, during boiler shutdowns, if corrosive condensate remains inside the tubes and nitrogen protection is not applied, slight pitting or red rust may appear on the surface. It performs very stably in dry air and freshwater circulation systems.

 

How can you ensure that the purchased SA 268 TP 430 piping is compliant?

Verify that the MTC (Material Test Certificate) references the ASME SA 268 standard.
Check that the heat number matches the marking on the pipe body.
