What is the difference between AMS 5529 and ASTM A693?
AMS 5529 is an aerospace material specification specifically for cold-rolled sheet and strip, primarily used in high-end manufacturing applications such as aircraft structural components and missile assemblies. In contrast, ASTM A693 is a general commercial/industrial standard covering plate, sheet, and strip across a range of precipitation-hardening (PH) stainless steel grades.
AMS 5529 17-7PH Stainless Steel Sheet Suppliers and Manufacturers
As a professional stainless steel material supplier, GNEE provides cold-rolled sheets and strips compliant with AMS 5529, ASTM A693, and UNS S17700 (17-7PH/631) standards, with a thickness range of 0.1–3.0 mm and support for various surface finishes including 2B, BA, and No. 4. Standard specifications are delivered within 7–12 days, and urgent military-grade orders can be rushed for shipment within 3–5 days. We also offer custom services such as leveling, slitting, laser cutting, precision stamping, and CNC machining.
The AMS 5529 17-7PH Stainless Steel Cold-Rolled Sheet we supply is a precipitation-hardening stainless steel plate widely adopted in the aerospace field. The material exhibits excellent cold workability in Condition A (solution annealed), allowing it to be stamped, bent, and drawn into complex components, and subsequently achieves high-strength properties through aging heat treatments such as TH1050, RH950, or CH900. After precipitation hardening, its tensile strength can reach 1310–1650 MPa, its yield strength can exceed 1170 MPa, and its hardness can reach HRC 38–45, while maintaining good dimensional stability and fatigue resistance, making it highly suitable for aerospace springs, bellows, aircraft structural parts, fasteners, precision instruments, and medical devices.

Additionally, this material offers corrosion resistance comparable to 304 stainless steel, can serve stably over the long term below 316°C (600°F), and limits heat treatment distortion to within 0.02 mm/m, fitting high-precision load-bearing components like aerospace clips, precision instruments, and military-grade fasteners.

Mechanical Properties (At Room Temperature)
17-7PH is valued for its properties after precipitation hardening. Common aged conditions include:
| Property | Condition A (Annealed) | Condition TH1050 | Condition RH950 |
| Tensile Strength (Rm) | ≤ 1035 (150) MPa (ksi) | ≥ 1170 (170) MPa (ksi) | ≥ 1275 (185) MPa (ksi) |

| Elongation (A50) | ≥ 20 6 % | ≥ 6 % | ≥ 6 % |
| Hardness (Rockwell) | ≤ 92 HRC | ≥ 38 HRC | ≥ 41 HRC |
What is the difference between 17-7PH TH1050 and RH950?
TH1050: Subjected to 1400°F conditioning and 1050°F aging. It offers slightly lower strength but involves a relatively simpler process and lower costs.
RH950: Subjected to 1750°F conditioning, **cryogenic treatment (-100°F)**, and 950°F aging. It achieves higher tensile strength (≥ 185 ksi) and superior performance stability compared to TH1050, making it common for parts requiring extremely high performance.
Why is 17-7PH commonly used to manufacture springs?
Because, after undergoing Condition CH900 (cold-worked and aged) treatment, 17-7PH exhibits an exceptionally high elastic limit and fatigue strength, while maintaining a good modulus of elasticity at temperatures up to 315°C (600°F).
Heat Treatment
| Condition | Process Steps |
| Condition A | Solution anneal at 1950°F (1066°C) and air cool. |
| TH1050 | Heat to 1400°F (760°C) for 90 min; cool to 55°F (15°C) within 1 hr; hold 30 min. Age at 1050°F (565°C) for 90 min; air cool. |
| RH950 | Heat to 1750°F (954°C) for 10 min; air cool. Refrigerate to -100°F (-73°C) for 8 hrs. Age at 950°F (510°C) for 60 min; air cool. |
Is 17-7PH magnetic?
Yes, 17-7PH is magnetic, though its magnetism depends on the state of the material. In its soft, annealed state (Condition A), it is essentially non-magnetic. However, after heat treatment and aging, it transforms into a martensitic structure, causing it to become slightly to moderately magnetic.
17-7ph Stainless Steel Plate Applications
Aerospace: Structural components, landing gear parts, engine cowlings, and springs.
Defense: Missile components and high-strength fasteners.
Industrial: Bellows, diaphragm valves, and pressure sensors.
Chemical: High-strength, corrosion-resistant equipment for mildly acidic environments.
17-7ph Stainless Steel Plate price per kg
The price of 17-7PH stainless steel plate typically ranges from $8 to $18 USD per kg depending on volume, thickness, and heat-treatment state. Purchasing smaller retail cuts or specific conditions (such as H900) can push prices higher, while bulk mill orders lower the cost to around $8 to $12 USD per kg.
If you are interested in purchasing this material, please provide the following information: the required thickness and width, the quantity needed, and the final heat treatment condition required for your parts (e.g., TH 1050, CH 900). I can assist by providing further technical information.
Quality Inspection
All products undergo PMI material identification, spectroscopic chemical composition analysis, tensile testing, hardness testing, dimensional tolerance checks, and surface quality inspections. We provide EN 10204 3.1 MTC and ISO 9001 quality documentation and support third-party inspections by agencies such as SGS, BV, and TÜV, ensuring materials meet the rigorous quality consistency and traceability requirements of the aerospace, defense, and high-end manufacturing industries.

High-quality packaging
GNEE utilizes export-grade packaging designed to prevent issues such as moisture, scratches, edge damage, and deformation during long-distance transport.
Each steel sheet is covered with a PVC protective film (optional) and separated by anti-scratch kraft paper or PE film. The exterior is wrapped in waterproof paper and moisture-proof plastic film, then secured onto fumigation-free wooden pallets or export-grade wooden crates and reinforced with steel strapping. Corner and edge protectors are added to prevent impact damage during loading and unloading, and the pallet base is reinforced to withstand forklift handling and the rigors of sea transport.
