What is the ASTM A269 standard?
ASTM A269 standard covers stainless steel tubing of nominal wall thickness intended for general corrosion resistance, low-temperature, or high-temperature environments. It specifies a range of commonly used stainless steel grades, such as TP304 and TP316, and covers mechanical properties and testing requirements. Tubing dimensions and wall thicknesses generally conforming to this standard are: inside diameter 6.4 mm and above, and nominal wall thickness 0.51 mm and above. Mechanical property requirements do not apply to tubing with an inside diameter less than 3.2 mm or a wall thickness less than 0.51 mm. A wall thickness of 0.38 mm is also acceptable. This ensures that these tubing materials are suitable for general corrosion resistance, low-temperature, and high-temperature environments.
What is the material equivalent to ASTM A269?

ASTM A269 pipe Permissible Variations in Dimensions

*For ordered tubing with a wall thickness requirement of 19.0 mm or more, or an inner diameter less than or equal to an outer diameter of 60 mm, a greater range of wall thickness variation is permitted.
For these sizes, a wall thickness deviation of 12.5 mm is permissible.
For tubing with an inner diameter less than 12.7 mm that cannot be successfully drawn, a wall thickness deviation of 15 mm from the specified value is permissible.
These tolerances apply to cut pieces not exceeding 24 feet (17.3 meters) in length. For cut pieces exceeding 24 feet (17.3 meters) in length, the above oversize tolerances shall be increased by 6 inches (13 mm) for every 10 feet (3 meters) or less than 10 feet (3 meters), whichever is less.

What is the difference between ASTM A269 and A213?
ASTM A213 is for seamless ferritic and austenitic alloy steel tubing for high-pressure applications like boilers and heat exchangers, while ASTM A269 covers both seamless and welded austenitic stainless steel tubing for general corrosion-resisting services at low or high temperatures. The key differences are the manufacturing process (seamless for A213, seamless and welded for A269) and application (high-temperature pressure for A213, general service for A269).
What is the difference between ASTM A269 and A312?
ASTM A269 covers seamless and welded austenitic stainless steel tubing for general low- to high-temperature service, while ASTM A312 covers seamless, welded, and heavily cold-worked austenitic stainless steel pipe for general corrosive service at high temperatures. The key difference is that A269 is for general-purpose tubing, while A312 is the standard for pipes that are designed for higher-temperature, corrosive industrial applications.
What is the difference between ASTM A270 and A269?
The main difference is that ASTM A270 requires specific, high-quality surface finishes, making it suitable for sanitary applications like food and pharmaceuticals, while ASTM A269 is for general-purpose tubing with less stringent, "workmanlike" finishes. This means A270 tubes have highly polished internal and external surfaces, are free of weld bead remnants, and have better cleanability, whereas A269 does not require these features.
