SS 321 equivalent material

What is 321 stainless steel material?

321 stainless steel is an austenitic stainless steel characterized by the addition of titanium (Ti) to 304 stainless steel, which greatly improves its resistance to intergranular corrosion and its high-temperature strength. It is mainly used in the manufacture of industrial equipment that requires high temperatures and corrosion resistance, such as aerospace components, combustion pipes in petrochemical equipment, and boiler heat exchangers.

AISI 321 equivalent material

The main equivalents for AISI 321 stainless steel are 1.4541 (EN designation) and SUS321 (Japanese designation). Other equivalents include 321S31 (British) and 0Cr18Ni10Ti (Chinese). Industrially, AISI 321 is often used as a stabilized version of grade 304, with the addition of titanium to prevent intergranular corrosion after welding.

What is the density of 321 SS?

The density of 321 stainless steel is approximately 7.92 g/cm³ or 0.286 lb/in³. This value can be used for calculations in engineering and design related to its weight and mass.

Is 321 stainless steel magnetic?

Stainless steel 321 is generally non-magnetic in its annealed condition, but it may become slightly magnetic after cold working.

What is the difference between SS 321 and 304?

The main difference between SS 321 and 304 is the addition of titanium (Ti). Because of its titanium content, 321 stainless steel has better high-temperature stability and resistance to intergranular corrosion, making it suitable for use in high-temperature environments. 304 stainless steel, on the other hand, does not contain titanium and is suitable for general corrosive environments.

SS 321 vs SS 304 price
Currently, the market price for SS 321 stainless steel is approximately USD 5.50–7.50 per kg, compared to SS 304 stainless steel, which ranges around USD 4.20–6.00 per kg. The higher price of SS 321 reflects its titanium-stabilized composition, providing enhanced high-temperature strength and improved resistance to intergranular corrosion, making it ideal for aerospace, chemical, and high-temperature industrial applications. Procuring from a trusted supplier like GNEE ensures certified quality, fast delivery, and competitive pricing, reducing project risk and ensuring long-term reliability.
