what is X5CrNiMo17-12-2 equivalent material?

what is X5CrNiMo17-12-2 material?

X5CrNiMo17-12-2 (Material No. 1.4401) is a German-standard (DIN/EN) molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel; it typically corresponds to the international standard AISI 316 or the domestic grade 06Cr17Ni12Mo2. Due to the addition of approximately 2.0%–2.5% molybdenum, its resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion is superior to that of 304 stainless steel. It can be processed into a wide variety of practical product forms, including plates, coils, tubes, bars, wires, and more. what is X5CrNiMo17-12-2 equivalent material?

The equivalent materials for X5CrNiMo17-12-2 (European Standard EN 1.4401) primarily include AISI 316 (US Standard), SUS 316 (Japanese Standard), and under Chinese standards 06Cr17Ni12Mo2 or 0Cr17Ni12Mo2; it is commonly used in marine environments, chemical equipment, medical devices, and high-grade food processing machinery.

X5CrNiMo17-12-2 Stainless Steel: Heat Treatment

Heat Treatment Specification: Solution annealing at 1010–1150°C, followed by rapid cooling.

X5CrNiMo17-12-2 Stainless Steel: Forging

Workpieces made of X5CrNiMo17-12-2 stainless steel are typically preheated to a temperature between 1150°C and 1180°C. Forging is performed within the temperature range of 1180°C to 950°C. After forging, the workpieces must be rapidly cooled in air or water to prevent the formation of undesirable phases that would compromise mechanical properties. Discoloration or scale formation can reduce corrosion resistance and must be removed via pickling or other suitable processes.

X5CrNiMo17-12-2 Stainless Steel: Weldability

X5CrNiMo17-12-2 stainless steel exhibits good weldability, whether welded with or without filler metal. If filler metal is required, Grade 1.4430 may be used, with a maximum interpass temperature of 150°C. Due to its relatively high carbon content, there is a potential for chromium carbide formation-which reduces resistance to intergranular corrosion meaning that post-weld heat treatment may be necessary. If large areas require welding, the use of Grade 1.4404 (X2CrNiMo17-12-2) is recommended.

X5CrNiMo17-12-2 Stainless Steel: Corrosion Resistance

The PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number) for X5CrNiMo17-12-2 stainless steel ranges from 23.1 to 28.5. Thanks to the steel's molybdenum content (2–2.5%), its resistance to pitting and chloride-induced corrosion is enhanced; consequently, the corrosion resistance of Grade 1.4401 is significantly superior to that of stainless steel grades 1.4301 and 1.4307.

X5CrNiMo17-12-2 vs.X2CrNiMo17-12-2

X2CrNiMo17-12-2 (1.4404) and X5CrNiMo17-12-2 (1.4401) are both austenitic stainless steels (specifically, the 316/316L grades) that are widely utilized for their excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in chloride-containing environments. The primary distinction between the two lies in their carbon content: 316L contains ≤ 0.03% carbon, thereby offering superior weldability and resistance to intergranular corrosion; conversely, 316 contains ≤ 0.07% carbon and possesses slightly higher strength.
