what is EN 10088-2 1.4401 (X5CrNiMo17-12-2) Stainless Steel plate?
X5CrNiMo17-12-2 stainless steel plate is an austenitic stainless steel corresponding to the European standard grade 1.4401. Its chemical composition includes ≤0.08% carbon, 16.50–18.50% chromium, 10.00–13.00% nickel, and 2.00–2.50% molybdenum; additionally, its sulfur content is controlled at ≤0.030% to optimize processing characteristics specifically, maintaining the sulfur content between 0.015% and 0.030% enhances machinability. The material has a density of approximately 8 g/cm³. Commercially, it ranks second in importance only to 304 stainless steel; it offers superior corrosion resistance, with particularly outstanding resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-containing environments.
If you are seeking 1.4401 stainless steel plates for chemical plants, coastal structures, or marine engineering projects, GNEE as a professional exporter of stainless steel plates offers products accompanied by EN 10204 3.1 certificates (Material Test Certificates) and compliant with PED (Pressure Equipment Directive) certification.
The 1.4401 (X5CrNiMo17-12-2) stainless steel plates we supply feature a molybdenum content exceeding 2.0% and are available with a variety of surface finishes. For thin plates, we provide 2B or BA finishes, ensuring they are free from scratches or mill scale. For thick plates, we offer the No. 1 industrial finish, characterized by excellent flatness to facilitate subsequent laser cutting and automated welding processes. Although the standard carbon content for 1.4401 is slightly higher than that of 1.4404, our products undergo rigorous corrosion resistance testing; under standard welding conditions, they effectively mitigate the risk of intergranular corrosion.

Delivery Condition
Plates: Solution-treated and pickled. Generally, delivery is made in the heat-treated condition, with the specific type of heat treatment specified in the contract; if not specified, delivery is made in the non-heat-treated condition.
